Synopsis
A trippy story of 80’s joint family doing farming and solving bad trips beside. Each family has a story and the story leads to emotions, drama, and problems. Likewise, in this Joint family, each member has an intriguing story to narrate but with some crazy twists. Homegrown is Kushparvat’s staple crop grown by their family since lineages. But what will happen when their age-old farming crumbled in seconds and their own crop turns out to be the most harmful thing?

My Thoughts
Less a compelling narrative than a rich stew of ironies and contradictions. Shiwani's eye for the ridiculous is as keen as ever. Her keen appreciation of contradiction enriches the book, and, if the integrity of her narrative is less than perfect, the integrity of her ideological convictions is absolute. Briskly paced and sumptuously written, the novel ponders questions of family relationships, modernity, and class, in ways both moving and revelatory.

In her debut novel, Shiwani is more perceptive and bewitching.... Shiwani imaginatively dramatizes the wonders and tragedies of life and, by extension, the fragility of peace and elusiveness of justice, albeit with her own powerful blend of tenderness and wit.

Shiwani's brilliant novel, is a story of joy and despair. Her characters face numerous choices that majestically illuminate the consequences of society and life as a whole offers to us as it collides with the modern world.

Easy to read and deceptively deep; this is a good novel with much to recommend it.
