My Thoughts
With this beautiful collection of poems, author Natasha Malpani Oswal tried to reconnect with her roots after returning to India. Some selections journey she shares her current experience flushed with hopes, dreams and fears as they collectively move into the age of reflection. Others follow her personal roots, revisiting her triumphs and tragedies of times past. And throughout the collection, she often reverses the current trend that favors free verse by returning instead to formal verse, to honor poetry’s own roots, by rhyming and composing in classic forms like the sonnet, the villanelle, and the sestina.
The author bravely addresses the very topics that have caused immense transformation in her life. Sometimes, we have to detach the roots of our lives. Sometimes, we need to completely uproot who we surround ourselves with or with social norms and who we are in order to let go of what hinders us from growing and stand strong as a being.
Composing in formal verse—much of which was born of song—gives her poems a universal and timeless appeal.The writer combines feelings, thoughts, and talent.
