Synopsis
Welcome to the mecca of Mardi Gras, masquerades, and the lesser advertised....MURDER! Crescent City is under siege, unfortunately, so are the only two men proven to save it! A detective and a local hero have finally met their match in a crime adventure thriller that has a pinch of everything: Wit, grit, and gripping enough that you don't hold this novel's spine: IT...HOLDS....YOURS!!!"An enjoyable, understated detective tale and a smart examination of superheroes.
My Thoughts
My very first introduction to K. E. Robinson and a welcome one at that. Robinson isn’t an eminent writer for nothing. He has an uncanny knack of getting you hooked and reeling you in to the last paragraph and I’m not complaining. I enjoyed Robinson's sharp writing and it's enough to keep the readers engaged at his routine quips and observations about the characters in general. I even caught myself imagining the scenes in the book characters ruminated over the course of events. The book can be read as a straight forward thriller with a breathless pace to the plot. It is so much more than that though. The characterisation of Robinson is a psychological analysis that was very advanced for it's time. There is a lot of mystery and unanswered questions throughout the book which kept me reading - this made it a very enjoyable book to read. The author has a talent of being able to describe something in a very few words.
So many other people have read and loved this book. I probably can find nothing new to say. I can say is that the descriptive writing is brilliant. The collection of characters are a very mixed bunch. The plot is engaging and easy to follow. The book is ultimately about preserving and protecting a sense of humanity. The writing is sharp, sophisticated, engaging and memorable.
This is probably one of Robinson's most impressive and tightly plotted works and the characters are some of her best and most developed.
Highly Recommended!
