Synopsis

The Wave by Kristen Crusoe
A truly empowering book. It plays with conventional storytelling structures and tropes, and defies most of them. It traces characters , and does it really well! That takes real skill, and it's also done in a very engaging way. Through this complex story, the author makes a compelling statement about the nature of events, how one small thing can lead to another, and affect major events in the future.

But an argument with husband Adam distracts her from watching their four-year-old autistic son, and tragedy strikes when a sneaker wave sweeps him away. It is a remarkable achievement of style and the imagination, well written, inventive and not in a manner that might alienate a reader. It is a story of wonder, mundane, of emotions and life, a story of what was and what might be, of lives intersecting, moving apart and coming together again, it is a story of humanly emotions, loss , suffering, self-realisation and the power of love. It is a book that looks seriously at the subject of self realisation, and never once drops the ball. For me, at least, a modern masterpiece and one of the best books I have ever read.
Kristen Crusoe entices her readers onto a rollercoaster, and at first they wonder if they want to get off. Then - at least in my case - they can't bear the journey to end.
