Synopsis
Sarhad Zero Mile (Hindi) is an eye-witness account of the life along the Line of Control (LoC). The author, Ranjan Kumar Singh, traveled almost all along the LoC, starting his journey from Akhnoor in Jammu sector to Partapur in Ladakh region, to capture the essence of life in the war-torn area. The book is first of its kind in Hindi as it highlights the velor of our gallant soldiers, as well as the struggle of common men and women along the border. On his journey along the LoC, the author slept in bunkers, toiled with the soldiers, braved the chill of the Himalayas to bring to light an authentic insight into the lives of these soldiers and the dwellers.

My Thoughts
Sarhad: Zero Mile (Hindi Edition) by Ranjan Kumar Singh What makes this book especially noteworthy is the moving depiction of the miserable life on the LoC in front of two firing squads. The innocent villagers close to the boundary on both sides are often caught between the crossfire of the two armies. For these hapless people, peace is all about not getting killed. The author start his journey from Akhnoor in Jammu sector to Partapur in Ladakh region, to capture the essence of life in the war-torn area. 

This book gives some tips for researchers of sensitive political issues and the life of army personnel around the line of control. When I read the excerpt of “ Sarhad: Zero Mile” by Ranjan Kumar Singh and promptly bought it and read it in a day, I was reminded of this old fable, because it is exactly the kind of book that would probably meet your expectations, what ever they be.

Overall, an easy to read book. Not exactly a primer on the complexities of the LOC Issue. Expects the reader to know all the broad contours. But he does come across as sincere in his effort to understand the life of personal around LOC and more to enable help devise ways to bring peace to the area. Highlights the difference between individual beliefs and institutional responsibilities of all the military personnel, that is often spoken of in situations like this. Considering it took about 4 hours to read it, time well spent for me.
