My Thoughts
The sky is mine, by author Amy Beashel, published in 2020 to wonderful reviews and a whole lot of praise and Shortlisted for the Bristol teen award 2020.
Amy Beashel's first novel helped show us what young literature could be. The sky is mine never trivializes or talks down to the audience it was meant for. Instead of shying away from difficult and mature subject matter, it brings it into the light.

I’ve reread The sky is mine several times this year partially because it gets the tone of being young so right and partially because it’s just a damn good book. It is a master class in treating the reader with respect and dignity. The book allows the reader the emotional space and freedom to be wrong about what happened or what will happen. For young readers especially, that’s not a gift they are often granted.
This book holds an amazingly powerful thought provoking story that can happen to anyone. It is a good book to have younger teens read it can help them see whats really out there.
Will it scare them?
No Probably Not!
But it informs the reader that life is not all peaches and cream, its not perfect , its a great book for all ages. Parents don't be scared to let your children read books they can be a great learning experience. Some books may have gruesome scene but I promise they wont traumatize your children.
Powerful story of survival and strength.
Agh! I loved this book so much and really appreciate that it is actually raw, real and available for people to read and learn from.
