Synopsis
The author, Dr. Anam Fatima, is an M.B.B.S graduate from K.P.C Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata. Writing has been her passion since a very young age though she never thought she would start writing poems someday. Her method of writing poetry is rather non-traditional. ‘Not Your Traditional Kavita’ depicts a myriad of emotions. As the name suggests, the book consists of a combination of English and Hindi poetries (which many wouldn’t call poetries in the traditional sense). In her words “Jo bhi hai dil se hai!”
My Thoughts
Astute, ironic, and intense, Anam's poems brood over a wide range of topics, through language that's cutting in its precision. The poet's sharp intellect consistently is interesting.
Anam Fatima's first collection aims straight for the perennial "big"—and very human—subjects of self-dignity, fantasies, living in the present, positivity, conviction . None of these she allows to overwhelm her spirit or her poems, which demonstrate, through breath and cadence and unrepentant enthrallment, that a gentle palm on a chest can calm the fiercest hungers.
This is a lovely lovely book of poems. Nearly every poem ended in a way that left me saying "umm" with pleasure or admiration or the quiet of feeling stunned by such beautiful words.
Highly Recommended to all the lovers of poetry a must read for sure.
