Synopsis
For anyone who has known the struggle of having to choose between the rational (left) and imaginative (right) parts of their brain, and then had to fight the battle over the head and the heart, this book is for you. These are based on thoughts and conversations I've had with myself, The Left, The Right, and The Heart over the last 10 years of my life. Maybe you'll even recognize some of you in some of it.
My Thoughts
Conversations from the Left, Right, & Heart has become one of my favourite modern collections. The poetries in this book focuses on the silent, often subconscious conversation that is taking place inside us is one of the most vital communications we will ever find ourselves engaged in. It’s the dialogue of emotion-based signals between our hearts and our brains, also known as the heart-brain connection.
You should see the amount of little sticky notes I have carefully stuck into this book, I may as well have stuck one on every page. My roommate caught me reading it, raised one of her perfectly-shaped eyebrows and said, “I take it you’re enjoying that, are you?”
I was. Though there’s something about poetry collections that makes me want to say “I am.” I’m still enjoying it. Poetry doesn’t leave you so quickly – that’s one of the things I really love about it. It helps me ask questions and look for answers all at the same time. I’ve been in a bit of a rut recently, and Conversations from the left right and heart has helped me shift out of it.
She reminds me of Rupi Kaur in how she really draws on raw emotions, often using concise language to express how she feels. Golden’s are, in general, a little more long-winded than that of Kaur, and plumped out with adjectives and striking metaphor, though sometimes a page only contains a single sentence that contains as much power as a paragraph.
Highly Recommended!
