Synopsis
Inara Caan is an embittered vestal to The Order of the Avenging Hand. Her job, traveling worldwide with her demon partner, using magic to destroy monsters and mythological creatures wherever the Order finds them. Her next hunt takes her to Boston. My Thoughts
I’m not sure what I expected going into this series, but it wasn’t what I got. This was my first Martin A Cullen book and it will not be my last. There was so much action that I felt like I needed a break from reading at times, but overall I enjoyed the ass-kicking nature of Inara. I’m much more prone to like a girl who can save herself. No whiny heroines for me thank you.
The world that Cullen creates is unique. I liked this new spin and I am excited to see the world continue to build as we learn more about it. Plus, the insane creatures she meets are not the norm.
The writing is perfection and achieved something I have struggled with since forever: it made me actually enjoy action scenes. They make sense, I can picture them in my head, and they are engaging. Yes, yes I know. All the characters are so cool. You want to be their friend one minute and throw a frying pan at their head the next. But all in jest because they are little cinnamon rolls that need to be protected at all costs.
The funnest, most action-packed, not a dull moment kind of book I’ve read in a very long time. I loved it, this is one of those cases where, if I had gone for the cover alone, I would have stayed far far away from this book. And then I would’ve been MISSING OUT. Simply because I was a vain little twerp.
One of the brightest voices in urban fantasy... Martin A Cullen delivers only the best.
