Synopsis
This is a true, inspirational story about a young girl's journey to health and happiness.
At the age of eighteen, just before graduating from high school, the unimaginable nightmare began. After a car accident threw her thirty feet into a carpool lane on the Corona Freeway, she slipped into a coma and awoke days later with the mindset of an average five-year-old. Her severe traumatic brain injury forced her to rebuild her mind. With love all around her, resilience in her blood, and a strong will to live, her brain and body would have to learn to adapt to a new way of living. She would go through numerous bizarre mental stages, but endurance, patience and time was on her side for a decade and beyond.
Join Rosemary on this amazing journey as she captures each moment, emotion and experience, and learns just how powerful and incredible the mind really is. Sometimes, it takes living through tortuous times to one day find true enlightenment.
My Thoughts
A personal story of survival, hope, and spiritual awakening in the face of unspeakable tragedy.
It’s the unfathomable modern legend that has become a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. In this revelatory and rewarding memoir, Rosemary Beatriz Montoya withholds nothing as she reveals the truth behind the life-changing events that challenged her physically and tested her spiritually, but would never destroy her.
In revisiting the horror story we thought we knew, Montoya shares the lessons gleaned from far outside the realm of rational learning: how to survive an accident, in the face of its fierce, unforgiving power and desolate beauty, forever altered her perception of love, life, death, fear, loss, and hope.
It was a powerful and emotional account that was compelling enough to read in one sitting. Montoya is a true wordsmith. By chapter, Montoya breaks down emotions (love, hope, fear etc) as well as the the experiences we all share as human beings (time, family, death) and interprets how her understanding was transformed by the unprecedented days of survival.
While it is not a religious account it is deeply spiritual. As such, it was a singularly unique perspective of all the accounts I have read of what is the greatest story of human perseverance in modern times. If you want to be inspired and lifted up then this is a must read.
Highly Recommended!
