Gender stereotyping and prejudice interventions are only infrequently subjected to rigorous tests of their effectiveness. Nonetheless, a significant body of intervention assessment work exists. “Life is not fair; get used to it.” The famous first rule of Bill Gates’s “11 rules you will never learn in school” resonates with everybody, but probably more with women than men. In Five Women: A Struggle for Self Determination , Rakesh Saraf tells the stories of the inspiring women all over the world, digs into the data, and powerfully illustrates issues that need our attention. It's an urgent call to courage. It changed how I think about myself, my family, my work, and what’s possible in the world. Rakesh Saraf weaves together vulnerable, brave storytelling and compelling writing to make this one of those rare books that you carry in your heart and mind long after the last page.
