My Thoughts
Man On Fire by Humphrey Hawksley: a fascinating book where Rake Ozenna, one of the most raw thriller characters around, helped by Humphrey Hawksley’s original and visually inhospitable landscapes. Man on Fire takes the world to the edge of disaster. The story is such a thriller, built with some mind-blowing twists. The story is a classic whodunnit. For me, it was the perfect number of characters, some pretty unlikeable, with personal stories which continued to suprise and shock right through to the end. Brilliant! I am not sure I'm the right person to write a review of this masterpiece but felt compelled after finishing this today. I absolutely loved this book; hooked from the first chapter! I must say , I was excited about the prospect of this book after reading a few of the reviews. Unfortunately I was underwhelmed and found it more than a thriller. There were definitely twists and turns and the writing and imagination of the author was great. I just became "gripped" by the story which I found was the best aspect of the book. The scenery was beautiful and I could easily see the scenes in my head. Overall, I thought the writing was great, but I definitely going to recommend for people who are looking for an original thriller.
An enjoyable read, even as it opens slowly, establishing various characters with dedicated chapters through their point of views, but just shifts into top gear once you’re halfway through. Humphrey Hawksley’s character development is top notch and it felt like we were watching a movie.
It grabs you from the off and keeps you guessing until the very end. A genuine treat of a read’ Heat. This is a stunningly brilliant book: writing to die for, compelling characters, and a plot driven by a deep-seated sense of unease. I savoured every secret, every twist and turn.
