Synopsis

My Thoughts
So often we’re told to “Just trust your gut,” but what does it actually mean and more importantly, how do you do it? Gut instinct, or intuition, is your immediate understanding of something; there’s no need to think it over or get another opinion—you just know. Touch By Rebecca Miller showcases such a story of two teens Megan and Shawn. After her mother's sudden death, artistically gifted Megan lost her will to draw as she watched her family crumble. Megan's intrigued when she sees Shawn-a secluded classmate who sparks unexpected drawing inspiration. I must say , Sometimes there’s really nothing better than a good ol’ fashioned sobfest. And by good, we mean a soul-crushing, devastatingly heartbreaking story that maybe has a glimmer of hope at the end, but either way it’s all worth it! Touch By Rebecca Miller is totally that kind of heart wrenching literature worth reading.
If you’re looking for a fast-paced, action-packed, plot-centered novel, put this book down and walk far, far away. Touch reads more like an in-depth character study than anything else. Despite there being a large, diverse, well-fleshed out cast of characters- make no mistake. But having said that, Rebecca Miller’s writing is easy to keep up with. Engaging and deep as it may be with its intelligent discussion of many themes. After completing it, I felt I needed to recover from her roller coaster of a novel. Imagine though a roller coaster that is on fire, but has classical music playing on its back row as it dips and ascends into screaming terror and melancholic euphoria.
Remarkable. . . An epic study of trauma and friendship suspense, love, and family written with such intelligence and depth of perception that it will be one of the benchmarks against which all other novels that broach those subjects (and they are legion) will be measured.
