And, according to the fourth annual study on Civility in America: A Nationwide Survey, conducted by global public relations firm Weber Shandwick and public affairs firm Powell Tate in partnership with KRC Research, civility in America continues to erode. This year’s study found that 70% of the Americans believe incivility has reached crisis proportions. Alarmingly, 81% of the Americans think that incivility is leading to an increase in violence at work. Notably, 80% of the people are dissatisfied with their jobs.
Increasingly, people are choosing employers who understand that civility is good business. My Thoughts
Civility at workplace : behaviors that help to preserve the norms for mutual respect in the workplace; civility reflects concern for others.” Incivility in the workplace can have an impact on productivity and commitment to the organization. Employees experiencing incivility may even perceive the workplace as hostile and look for work elsewhere. Incivility is silently chipping away at people, organizations, and our economy. Slights, insensitivities, and rude behaviors can cut deeply. Moreover, incivility hijacks focus. Even if people want to perform well, they can't. Customers too are less likely to buy from a company with an employee who is perceived as rude. Ultimately, incivility cuts the bottom line. In Civility at Work: How People Treatment is a Critical Success Driver for Business , Lewena Bayer shows how people can enhance their influence and effectiveness with civility. This book will arm readers with the tools they need to move from defeat to empowerment and prompt change in the workplace.
In Civility at Work: How People Treatment is a Critical Success Driver for Business author describes the business case for civility and explains how organizations can increase employee retention, performance, and overall revenue by creating a workplace culture of human kindness and civility. Engaging read with lots of practical advice for leaders or for those who want to be leaders. I immediately started using the strategies and have seen a very positive impact already. Busy people, including me, find it easy to tell ourselves that we don't have the time to be civil, we just need to get our work done. However, the small gestures that show respect to our colleagues often make our work more efficient and effective. This book is a must-read for mid-level leaders looking to build coalitions and progress to the next level of leadership.
The most useful, well-written, and emotionally compelling business book I have read in years. I couldn't put it down.
Highly Recommended!
