Synopsis
Have you ever started to climb a staircase and wondered when it would end? Each step an accomplishment, ending one step of a struggle. Climb the stairs with Rose on her journey to fulfill her dreams. Conquer each of the forty-seven steps. Fight the battles with her as she learns to trust her heart.

The Length of Our Staircase is fiction, based on a true story about a strong, independent woman named Rose. While lacking confidence, she is determined to fulfill her late mothers wish, to adopt an older boy who needs a home. It is both heart-breaking and heart-warming as Rose adopts the child and then faces years of hardships and conflicts because of her son's abusive past. One problem leads to another, and Rose finds that her life now has a purpose: to succeed in creating a happy life for her son and a happy life for herself. It is the story of two unlikely people who form a bonding relationship in a difficult situation. You will find yourself on the edge of your seat, with a tear in your eye, hoping and praying that Rose and her new son finally get a break and find happiness. This story is for every mother who fought for their child in any difficult situation. Whether you gave birth to a child or have been there for a child in need, you will feel very close to this story, and it will remind you of your own journey and the staircase you climbed.

Martin Luther King Jr. - "Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase."

My Thoughts
The Length of Our Staircase by Betsy Naglich brings a group of women together. Through laughter and tears. I can't wait for the next book. Thank you Betsy Naglich, I have been waiting for this type of book for a long time. Has your journey through motherhood been less than stellar? Have you have ever looked back at your life and found yourself grappling with guilt over mistakes made and promises broken? Have you watched your children make life choices that made you wonder if you had failed as a mother? Have you tried your best but still felt like your efforts were just not quite good enough? I'm must say this is an Informative, empowering, and inspiring. I can't think of a single mother who wouldn't benefit from reading this. It's the book equivalent of a long chat with your most honest and experienced mom friend – something we all need more of! This is very very very remarkable not because it is written by a woman I love and respect but this book will bring healing and strength to all the women in the world.

The Length of Our Staircase The most moving and accomplished, and often startling, novel in translation I've read in many seasons ... Every sentence is saturated in detail ... It tells an almost unbearably affecting story of remorse and belated wisdom that reminds us how globalism-at the human level-can tear souls apart and leave them uncertain of where to turn. Really good book. Broadly themes about mother with respect to sacrifice, love, hardship, selfishness and guilt, as well as the values of the changing generations. A different writing style to most western authors, and written from the point of view of the different characters. For someone used to reading books from different cultures this should not be an issue and was for me refreshing. A beautiful book. This was a fascinating and wonderful book and I would thoroughly recommend it.

I would recommend this book to not only 'children' like me but also to all the mothers who spare no time for themselves only to look after and worry about everything else under the sun!

Highly Recommended!
