Synopsis
Lazer is an almost made it, middle-aged guitarist who plays in an 80's hard rock cover band at a Sunset Strip dive bar. While not quite a rock star, he plays to a packed house nightly. His blissful inertia is disrupted one night however when he is abducted by aliens and given a strange imprint on his hand: A key which will send him on an intergalactic journey in search of an artifact that gives its possessor "infinite life." With the help of his new friend Streek; A timid floating octopus-creature with an English accent, Lazer will have to survive encounters with monsters, robots, alien pirates, inter-dimensional brain leeches and much more. Will Lazer get back home? What does 'infinite life' actually mean? And why does everybody in space speak English? All answers await at the pyramid at the end of the world.

My Thoughts
The world is increasingly troubling these days. And there are a lot of important books available to help us understand the modern and historic context of these issues. They should all be read—I know they’re piling up on my own nightstand. But between those heavy reads, something lighter can give your mind a break. Or, they can even serve up some digestible satire that break apart the cracks in our culture as compellingly as the denser, more serious works. Sunset Distortion: The Pyramid at the End of the World by Paul Bahou is an amazing rock and roll, Sci-Fi alien Comedy. 

I found this to be an enjoyable holiday read, very amusing in parts if not laugh out loud funny. Unfortunately reading on my Kindle made following the humour and comments in the footnotes difficult as these were shifted to the end of the chapter meaning I missed out on what should have been quite witty asides. Brilliant book, funny, original and incredibly well written. I would highly recommend this easy read I couldn't put it down.

Hilarious, provocative, and supersmart, Sunset Distortion: The Pyramid at the End of the World  is a brilliant novel to be enjoyed in perpetuity in the known universe and in all unknown universes yet to be discovered.
