My Thoughts
The leaves are falling, the nights are getting darker, and it’s creepy season once again. You may not think you’re much of a horror fan, but if you like science fiction or fantasy, there’s definitely a lot of crossover for you in the horror genre. A Demon's Trade (Damned If She Does Book 1) by Kathrin Hutson this story is not an in-your-face horror-fest but rather a quiet, subdued, character driven narrative that worked for me extremely well. I have to be honest and say that the main reason why I enjoyed this novella is because of the characterisation. I loved it. The novella is a slow burn, but the reader’s patience is amply rewarded at the end.
The book's ending is like having a door slammed in your face. You want more, but that's the story's end. That's all Hand plans to give the reader. There's plenty left up to the reader to speculate about in their own private fantasies.
A Demon's Trade is a gem of a novella. I will return to this novella more than once. Hand continues to weave her magic.
