Synopsis
Something evil lurks beneath the palace.
A phantasm from a darker past makes its presence known to Khae Wys, Queen of the Elves.

In a desperate attempt to save the heir to the Willow Throne, Princess Ouderling is exiled to the only place capable of protecting her. Highcliff, the home of the coveted Crystal Cavern and the dragons that watch over it.
The Duke of Grim, however, has other plans for the princess.
My Thoughts
I wanted to like this more. My friend highly recommended it as a great dark fantasy story with swords and sorcery, dungeons and dragons. It has those things, but it doesn't come off as very exciting or enchanting.
The introduction of characters and places is truly horrific and done extremely well. In a world as horrible and filled with suffering as the kingdoms, they are something worse and come to bring an end to the old way of life (as well as possibly its people). Keeper of the Jewel is one of the most harrowing short bits of fiction I've read. But not everything monstrous-looking is evil; not everything fair is good . . . and in every fairy tale there is a grain of truth.
I recommend this book strongly. It's got humor, drama, action, character insight, tragedy, and wonder. Is it the best fantasy I've ever read? No. However, it's up there. For this amazing storytelling , the author manages to really crank out some wonders.
Delightful, intense, irreverent, and compelling....you have to read Keeper of the Jewel book because this is rife with all of the elements that make you love fiction, and especially fantasy, in the first place....In a word, Keeper of the Jewel delivers.
