Synopsis
In the realm of Ishreedin, humans and elves have a deep animosity for each other that spans centuries. Though fragile peace now exists through a treaty, fate is not often kind to those caught in the middle. Born of a secret marriage between the human King and the elven Princess, five half-elven daughters understand— better than anyone— that their fate was signed away long before they were born.
After their mother mysteriously disappears, the sisters find themselves at the center of a millennia-old curse, which becomes the catalyst for a whirlwind of events that will throw the five sisters into unknown adventures. Their destinies now hang on the decisions they make while discovering themselves in ways no one knew possible.
My Thoughts
While you can tell that C.B Haight's is an amazing writer-- she's got room to grow in terms of cleanly switching perspectives, in particular-- this is a brilliant book and one that I heartily recommend. I can't wait to see where Haight goes; she's on my must-read author list after this. Without ever letting it get in the way of the story's pacing, and uses it to build very rich and complex characters. The book's lead characters, in particular, is completely relatable, very sympathetic, and has entirely realistically complicated feelings about several of the important people in his life as well as about his own situation.
I give Dragon Touched: The Awakening a strong recommendation, particularly for anyone who likes fantasy of manners, historical fiction, or diverse characters. However, Dragon Touched: The Awakening should really appeal to anyone looking for an engaging book that will make them smile. An excellent choice for adult fantasy readers, especially those who like alt-historicals, but some older teen readers might enjoy it. Highly recommended, but hang in there after the beginning.
Inventive, dangerous, brilliant, unsettling, and adorable, all at the same time. It shatters as many rules as its characters do. A delightful and enchanting novel that uses sly wit and assured style to subvert expectations while it always, unfailingly, entertains. I loved it!
Highly Recommended!
