Synopsis
Elisabeth’s autism never holds her back unless someone or something disturbs the natural order of her world. Alejandra doesn’t recognise how she has changed, nor had she considered that her husband was a narcissist until she can’t ignore it anymore. Mary Ann lives like a caged bird, through choice and circumstance. She is unable to see further than this but is finally beginning to question her life.
Giuseppe longs to escape his homeland, but his health and his mother are holding him back, or is that just an excuse he uses not to change? Clayton is nearing the end of his life and decides he needs to right the wrongs in his family while he still thinks he has time. Annchi doesn’t know much about the wider world, she doesn’t even know the truth of her own world. She doesn’t know it yet but will find out more than she could ever conceive of.
Then Covid hits.
Six people in five countries are unknowingly and inextricably linked. Love, hate, life, and death. Relationships are put to the test, deceptions are revealed, secrets are kept, lies are constructed. Help is at hand from the least expected sources, but hope is what they all have.
All they each wanted was the gift of time, but this wasn’t what they imagined.
My Thoughts
Point-of-view, famously shortened to POV, doesn't get nearly as much credit as it deserves. It is the oft-overlooked brother of character development, the plot's favorite sidekick and the pacing's very best friend. And yet it isn't discussed nearly as much as its more famous counterparts. As readers, we frequently assume that the author had always known, on a purely intuitive level, how many points of view to include in a story, which tense to use and what sort of voice to employ. And sometimes, we are right to assume it. But more often than not... well, we all know what they say about assuming. The Gift of Time by JULIE. WALKER is an amazing contemporary multiple point of view rollercoaster flushed with humanly emotions. Author have truly mastered the craft of multiple point of views.
It's accessible, readable, relatable and doesn't get so complicated that it's unreadable. The author has been amazing at keeping something so complex so accessible. I would love for this book to be made a TV series. The concept is genuinely great and it's being explored enough. Additionally, I really did like the characters and the story developed well along with them. From the outset it grabbed me and I couldn't put it down. The writing is easy to read but vivid and beautiful at the same time. Such creative new worlds were described that you wanted to fall into some of them. Shouldn't judge a cover, but love the front cover too!!
Amazing book. I absolutely loved it, loved the story, the book cover is like a piece of art, looks so good on my book case. Can't wait to read more books by the author JULIE. WALKER.
