Synopsis
Those of us blessed with a comfortable life are definitely a minority compared to those who are not. Not by the number maybe, but by the sheer scale of misery the unfortunate lot go through for absolutely no fault of theirs.
Children suffering physical and sexual abuse at the hands of adults who are supposed to protect them, young adolescents succumbing to bullying by their peers, the poor and less privileged being exploited by the conscienceless affluent, young women getting trafficked into the flesh trade by the mindless pimpgangs... and the list goes on.
DREAD stalks these hapless souls and drives them through extremely frightening dark alleys... forcing them fight it out all by themselves with no help in sight, till they sight the end of their very lives.
The Hope Mafia turns the table on this rather stark, dreary scenario by unleashing a positive energy that eclipses the depressive reality with a far more violent offensive.
And the plot bolsters itself on this creative premise: Because the agents of The Hope Mafia are up for a formidable task, they are coded with an altruistic DNA and endowed with some special powers to accomplish their mission.
My Thoughts
Whether you need a beach read, an airplane read, or just something to peruse before bed (if you dare), there’s one category you can always count on: suspense books. These tales full of enigmatic intrigue and shocking twists have always enthralled readers, and they’ve become more popular than ever over the past few years.
Now, you might be wondering: what exactly are “suspense books”? Suspense isn’t a genre in and of itself, per se — it’s a category that encompasses mystery, thriller. The one thing that unites all suspense novels is, of course, the tantalizing buildup of suspense. Whether it’s about an unsolved murder or a cheating husband (or, as in many a modern domestic thriller, both), a suspense novel will have you on the edge of your seat, heart pounding, blood racing… all that adrenaline-y stuff.
If you’re a fan of suspense novels you will love to read The Hope Mafia : Eclipsing the Dark Forces by Nirmal Ranganathan once you start reading this book, you can’t stop. Luckily, Nirmal Ranganathan is here to feed your addiction. It is so much more than just a "suspense" novel - it has it all: amazing character development, fabulous use of English language, top-notch plot, and knock-your-socks-off ending. One can debate as to whether or not this novel was intended to be "solved" by the reader, but at some point it becomes irrelevant. The originality of this novel is nothing short of stunning! No other "mystery" novel, in my opinion, tops this in terms of psychology, character development, and literary style. An amazing piece written by an amazing writer! In terms of pure suspense.
Having just finished my first Nirmal Ranganathan novel, I had to ask myself what in the world was I waiting for. This book is a delightful read.
