Synopsis
Another outstanding geopolitical thriller in Hawksley’s excellent Rake Ozenna series . . . carefully researched, action-packed, and suspenseful' –Booklist Starred Review

Major Rake Ozenna faces dangerous choices and deadly consequences in this rip-roaring political thriller that takes you from the ice islands of Finland to the bustling streets of Tokyo via Russia and the White House . . . Buckle up, this is a thrilling ride!

Major Rake Ozenna's mission is simple: gain access to the Kato family - Japan's most dangerous crime empire - and stop the threat to America. But when the secret son of the Russian leader is executed and Rake's target, Sara Kato, is implicated in the murder, a political crisis between Russia, Japan and the US is set in motion.

It's a race to protect Sara and earn her trust whilst escaping the inhospitable terrain of the icy Aland Islands. Meanwhile, Russia wants revenge for the murder, a catastrophic move when it is revealed that Japan is not the trusted ally America thought it was.

As Rake learns the true extent of their deadly plans, he must draw on every ounce of his training to succeed. Because if he fails, it won't just be his life that will be lost . . . the consequences will be global!

Ice Islands is the third Rake Ozenna thriller and will leave readers breathless . . . and eagerly anticipating the next heart-racing adventure!

My Thoughts
What makes a thriller a political thriller? Political thrillers often feature protagonists who work with or for the government, especially the military. Inevitably, they stumble across something they shouldn’t and end up fighting for their lives, the fate of the world, or both. Ice Islands (A Rake Ozenna Thriller, 4)
by Humphrey Hawksley is the most popular political thrillers, according to me.

This clever and complex geopolitical thriller was a a pleasant surprise. The synopsis above is a good summary of the book, so I wont spoil any other details, and will instead just give my overall. I personally appreciated the depth and complexity of the story, and I felt like all of the technical information just added a level of realism.

This is among those books that will make your pulse pound and your palms sweat. Twisty, clever and full of surprises, this will be one to watch this Spring. Humphrey Hawksley proves he is not only a force for change in politics but a force to be reckoned with in fiction, too. Ice Islands is one of the best political thrillers I’ve read in years. It checks all the boxes: roller-coaster plot twists and turns, a fascinating look behind the scenes.

Humphrey Hawksley is a true novelist, and While Ice Islands is a first-class geopolitical thriller, favorably compared to many of the best, It’s fast-paced and full of surprises—a terrific read.

Highly Recommended!
