My Thoughts
Confined to women and women life related issues, the book makes a concerted effort to present the status of Indian women against the ever-changing social, economic, political and academic backgrounds. Very engrossing. Could read entire book at one stretch. It’s a book which brings on the surface agony of female population in our world time and again. Style of narration is unique. Present and past are mingled so beautifully that reader has an exciting journey across the ocean of time. There isn't a plot as such and I did not mind that for a second. I loved reading about the protagonist and the countless interesting characters. I often found myself or my mother or most of my female family members in the writing.
I highly recommend it because it made me see women in a completely different light. Sometimes, even when you know something, it doesn't register properly. This book is a reminder for me about the innumerable acts women in our lives do that go unnoticed silently. That we will probably never speak about because they will keep enduring it in silence.
The novel starts a bit slowly and is a little bit confusing with a lot of characters but once we get immersed in that world, the book is unputdownable!
